This Rifle Has Been Through Some Rough Times!

The M1 Garand is a semi-automatic rifle designed in 1928 and implemented as a standard service rifle in the United States Armed Forces in 1936. Used extensively during World War II, it gave the U.S. military a great advantage over the Axis’ older bolt action rifles. Like most firearms at the time, they were manufactured by Springfield Armory located in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Produced from 1936 to 1957 and again briefly in the 80s, there were over 6 million M1 rifles manufactured overall.

These rifles were eventually used by numerous armed forces from around the world due to their durability and overall effectiveness in combat. The U.S. has used them in numerous conflicts starting in World War II, the Korean War and to some extent in the Vietnam War. Today, their rich history is kept alive as they are used by drill teams and can be bought by civilians through the Civilian Marksmanship Program.
