In Remembrance of Victory In Europe Day: May 8th, 1945

Victory in Europe Day, commonly knowns as V-E day, is a public holiday celebrating the Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces upon the acceptance of the Allies.  On May 8th, 1945, most countries were united in celebration, gathering in the streets to mark the end of a 6 year long struggle that left many parts of the world in complete ruin.

It is estimated that over 75 million people lost their lives during World War II, making it the bloodiest conflict our world has ever seen.

On April 30th, 1945 Adolf Hitler committed suicide during the Battle of Berlin, and a week later, his successor, Karl Donitz officially surrendered in Berlin, Germany. Although some countries celebrate V-E day about a week apart, this day, whenever celebrated, is a victory for the entire world.
