The Long Fall.

Members of the United States Navy are held in high regard for their service to our country and keeping the world safe. Those at the top have worked hard with great integrity to reach those high-ranking roles of leadership. But every once in a while there is an abuse of that power and gets violates their everything the US Navy stands for.

Rear Admiral Robert Gilbeau pleaded guilty last June for accepting bribes from a defense contractor in the Philippines. Gilbeau lied about accepting gifts from “Fat Leonard” the owner of Glenn Defense Marine Asia. As a result of his actions, Robert Gilbeau was sentenced to 18 months in prison on bribery and fraud charges.

“This is the first time our nation will incarcerate a Navy admiral for a federal crime committed during the course of his official duty, and it is truly a somber day.”

– Alana W. Robinson (Acting U.S. Attorney)

So far over a dozen Navy officials have been caught up in the scandal with Gilbeau as the highest ranking member of the pack. Wochit news has further details on Gilbeau’s sentencing.
