F-4 Phantom Blue Angels Take to the Sky

F-4 Phantom Blue Angels Take to the Sky | World War Wings Videos

That’s So Awesome!

Since everyone who visits our site loves aviation, you all should know that the Blue Angels fly our beloved F/A-18 Hornets. They’re super maneuverable and also quite pretty to look at, especially in the hands of the Blue Angels.

That wasn’t always the case though. The demonstration planes have changed over the years as you can imagine. Since the first Blue Angels show took place in 1946, our planes have progressed significantly. Starting out in F6F Hellcats, there were 6 other aircraft the Angels flew between them and the current Hornets.

One of these planes was the F-4J- Phantom II. The Blue Angels flew them from 1969 to 1974. As they have been retired from U.S. service in 1996, it was really neat to get our hands on footage of the Blue Angels flying them. Also, the commentary is pretty fresh and might bring you back.

Just so you know, we’re trying to get our hands on some great footage of the Blues in F8F Bearcats. They flew those right after World War II, so that might be hard. If it’s out there though, we’ll find it.
