Shots Fired!

The Remington Rand M1911 pistol is about as standard as you can get when it comes to military handguns, but it was in such wide circulation for a very good reason. The M1911 is reliable and gets the job done, that’s why it became standard issue for United States Military during WWII.

Oddly enough the Remington Rand started off making typewriters and office equipment but as America entered World War II they transitioned into manufacturing guns.

“Remington Rand was awarded its first order on March 16th, 1942, for a total of 125,000 1911A1 pistols.  The company had no experience building pistols at the time it was awarded the contract. Remington Rand formed a new division (Remington Rand ‘C’ Division) to take charge of building the pistols.  Remington Rand ‘C’ Division converted a vacant plant into a modern pistol manufacturing facility.”

Controversial Times

The M1911 was so reliable as a sidearm that it remained in production until 1986. In this video, you get a glimpse of a WWII-era Remington Rand M1911 taking out some targets. This pistol may be well over 70 years old but that doesn’t stop it from delivering the hits.
