B-17 Yankee Lady Start-up and Take-off

The majestic sight of the B-17 Yankee Lady starting up her engines and taking off is a powerful reminder of the glory days of aviation. A Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, Yankee Lady was built in 1945 and, though it never saw combat, it served with the U.S. Coast Guard before being purchased by the Yankee Air Museum in 1986.
Lovingly restored to its World War II configuration, this iconic plane has since become a star of airshows and flight experiences.
In the video below, the Yankee Lady comes to life as its four Wright R-1820-97 radial engines rumble to a roar. The plane, painted in the markings of the 381st Bombardment Group of the Eighth Air Force, looks as if it has been transported straight from 1944.
Though sold to a private party in 2024, the Yankee Lady continues to soar, embodying the legacy of those who flew and maintained these aircraft.
