In the remote expanse of an Alaskan grass strip, these people were treated to an extraordinary sight: a C-46 Commando soaring overhead. According to an observer, the aircraft had just completed a fuel delivery to a nearby mining camp.
After taking off, the Commando executed a sharp bank and performed a low flyby, adding a touch of excitement to the Fourth of July celebrations.
For those unfamiliar with this iconic aircraft, the Curtiss C-46 Commando is a World War II-era transport plane introduced in 1941.
