This footage features a C-53 Skytrooper Startup at the Lorain County Airport Discover Aviation Air and Car show, shot on July 8, 2023. The plane looks like a C-47 but it actually isn’t.

The C-53 was a DC-3 designed for military service. One of the best ways to spot this plane “on the fly” is to look out for the single oval entry door on the left side, the small baggage compartment door, or the skinnier prop blades compared to the C-47’s fatter paddle blades. As soon as it entered the war, the C-54 became a workhorse and the backbone of the war effort. Gen. Eisenhower credited the C-47/C-53 as one of the four most important weapons for winning the war.
