The development of stealth fighters is under the shroud of secrecy with each nation working behind the scenes to get a leg up on their competition. But when the process reaches completion they are very eager to show the work they have developed and Japan is no exception. When the Lockheed Martin F-22 made its debut Japan was first in line to order units to update their aging Air Force to modern fighter jets. However, the United States Government denied Japan’s order for fear that they would cannibalize the technology and create a superior fighter jet. In response to their rejection, the Japanese simply began work on a superior fighter jet, the X-2 Shinshin.

“The X-2 prototype stealth aircraft is the first in Japan to feature radar avoidance technology and has been engineered for extreme maneuverability. Since World War II the development of Japanese military aircraft has been under limitations due to constitutional constraints, thus the X-2 marks a breakthrough for their nation. Although Japan is not at war, aggression from the Chinese Military has been increasing over the years as they establish bases in the South China Sea and develop fighter jets such as Chengdu J-20. There is no denying that the X-2 is a gorgeous fighter and it demonstrates incredible speed and agility on its first flight.
