The Iosco County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an explosion near Lake Huron around 1:15 PM. They soon found out that two F-16s from Toledo’s 180th Fighter Squadron were operating in the area that day.
According to reports, one of the fighter jets had an in-flight emergency that forced the pilot to dump two of his external fuel tanks near Lake Huron. One of which exploded near the lake, while the other landed in the Baldwin Plaza retail parking lot in central Michigan.
The fuel tank caused minor damage to several vehicles, but thankfully, nobody was injured.

The two F-16s returned safely to Toledo, according to the news release. Meanwhile, the US Coast Guard was able to find what was likely a part of the other tank in Lake Huron.
