This footage features the FG-1D Corsair doing fly-bys at WWII Weekend 2023. This Corsair was built by Goodyear, thus, it received the designation of FG rather than F4U. This carrier-capable fighter plane saw service mostly during World War II and the Korean War. The most recognizable feature in its design was the inverted gull wing that’s vital in keeping the blades of its 13 ft propeller from hitting the ground.
During WWII, Corsairs quickly became one of the most formidable carrier-based fighter-bomber of WWII. Many Japanese even regarded it as one of the most formidable American fighters of its time. Apart from being an excellent fighter, it is also an outstanding fighter-bomber.
