This Isn’t Your Ordinary B-17
In this footage, we see a B-17 Flying Fortress being attacked by Me-109s, and we have to say that military cameramen are among the most underrated people in war history.

Surprisingly, this B-17 is the famous Memphis Belle, and this is actual footage from some of her missions. The video was taken from a silent film shirt by members of the Army Air Forces’ First Motion Picture Unit, under the direction of LT COL William Wyler, a famous director in Hollywood.

When the crew of the Memphis Belle finished their last mission and went on a War Bond tour all over the country, they were asked by the Army’s First Motion Picture Unit in Hollywood to dub a scripted exchange during harrowing fighter attacks.

In 1944, the War Department of the US authorized the edited public release of the feature film which was eventually known to become the iconic โMemphis Belleโ film.
