Unique Airworthy Replica

The Planes of Fame Museum’s very own Focke-Wulf 190 looks a lot like the original. This airworthy replica was built in 2000 and is based on an original 1944 Fw190.

It was produced by Aerostar in Romania and was purchased by Rudy Frasca from Illinois. The aircraft is an A-8/N variant of the 190, meaning it had improved armor, oil cooler, and power boost systems.

After Frasca’s purchase, the replica was handed down to California AeroFab, which made the aircraft airworthy.

If you think the sound of its engine is familiar, that’s because its original BMW 801D-2 engine was replaced by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine.

The Museum acquired the Fw190 in 2018, now with the markings of German ace Oskar Bosch who shot down 18 Allied aircraft during WWII.
