Model aviation offers hobbyists the excitement of flying detailed replicas of historic planes. One such model, the P-38 Lightning, is a favorite due to its unique design and important role in World War II. Although remote-controlled planes are much smaller than their full-sized counterparts, they can still cause accidents if things go wrong.

Hobbyist’s Flightline P-38 Mishap

In this case, a hobbyist was flying a Flightline P-38 (by observation), a popular model of the famous WWII fighter. The original P-38 was known for its twin-engine design and impressive performance during the war. Model enthusiasts enjoy flying the P-38 because it presents a challenge, requiring a high level of skill and precision. But even experienced pilots can face unexpected issues.

During the flight, something went wrong, and the plane suddenly veered back toward its controller. In an unusual turn of events, the P-38 struck the hobbyist who was piloting it. Fortunately, the plane’s impact wasn’t severe enough to cause serious injury, though the model is no lightweight. Designed to mimic the aerodynamic capabilities of the real P-38, the model is fast and powerful.
