A plane crash on Interstate-684 near Exit 2 in Harrison, New York, Thursday evening left one person dead and another in critical condition.

The crash, involving a TECNAM P2008 aircraft, occurred around 7 p.m. after the pilot reported engine trouble about two miles from Westchester County Airport. The plane went down in the grassy median of I-684.

State Police confirmed two people were on board, with one passenger deceased and the other seriously injured. The plane had taken off from Linden Airport in New Jersey earlier that evening.

The crash caused major traffic disruptions, with both directions of I-684 closed for several hours, leading to significant delays in White Plains and Armonk. Detours were set up while emergency crews cleared the wreckage and addressed an aviation fuel spill.
The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.ย
