A Tractor That Could Reach 35mph

Take a look at how this M4 Tractor easily traverses an offroad course during the 2012 War & Peace Show in Beltring, UK. After the highlight, we get to hear the growl of its 14L 6-cylinder Waukesha engine during standby.

These high-speed tractors were used in WWII as artillery tractors by the US Army. The M4 had two base variants, one to tow a 90mm AA gun and another to carry a 155mm gun or an 8-in Howitzer.

It is powered by a Waukesha 145GZ gasoline engine rated at 210hp, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 14.70hp/ton. Though these weighed 14.2 tons, they could still reach 35mph with a service range of about 100mi.ย

You can really hear how hungry that Waukesha gets. Watch the short clip below to listen to it for yourself!
