Restored Bf 109 Takes To The Skies

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is still Germany’s most famous aircraft today.

This one, in particular, was originally built in the Neustadter Flugzeugwerke in Vienna in 1944. It crashed near Austria on May 29, 1944, with its original data plate still intact.

With the use of its data plate, Michael Rinner was able to start rebuilding the aircraft and almost completed it in Austria in 2007. Several years later, the Air Fighter Academy assumed the responsibility and managed to get the aircraft airworthy once more in the summer of 2018.

Decades after it crashed, the Bf-109 G-6 aircraft still sports its Daimler Benz DB605A engine. Check out the video below to hear the distinct sound of this WWII fighter.
