Man, That Was Close.

Landing is the most difficult part of flying, as any pilot will tell you that it’s just a controlled crash, but the events July 7th, 2017, could have been the worst landing of all time.

Air Canada flying an Airbus 320 left Toronto and headed towards San Francisco, approaching the runway at night. As you’ll hear in the ATC audio clip we found, the pilot double checked which runway to land on, saying he saw lights. The ATC gave him the all clear, but Air Canada still lined up on the taxiway which had 4 other planes waiting for takeoff.

Luckily, the pilots of the other planes radioed over asking, “Where is this guy going? He’s on the taxiway.” Air Canada was immediately told to abort the landing by the ATC and to go around.

How close was the plane you ask?

It flew directly over four passenger planes waiting for takeoff. A United pilot was quoted as saying,”Air Canada flew directly over us.” That’s how close to disaster this was.

The incident is being investigated by the FAA. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we know exactly what happened.
