On June 15, 2024, aviation enthusiasts gathered at Westpac Restorations to witness a remarkable presentation of the 56th Fighter Group, highlighted by the breathtaking takeoff of a beautifully restored P-47D Thunderbolt. The aircraft was  gleaming in its classic World War II livery!

We also see the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine roar to life, the deep, throaty rumble was unmistakable! Every detail of the aircraft, from its polished aluminum fuselage to its bold “WZ-A” markings, reflected the painstaking care that went into its restoration.

Originally built in 1945 by Republic Aviation, this Thunderbolt has a rich history, having served in the U.S. Army Air Force before being transferred to the Peruvian Air Force.

After years of storage and multiple restorations, the aircraft now flies as a testament to the craftsmanship of Westpac and the enduring legacy of the P-47D.
