Interesting Stuff
The Supermarine Spitfire is one of the most iconic WWII planes to date. It was the only British fighter that saw continuous production throughout the entire duration of the war. It also has a rich and varied history with over 20,000 built.
But do you know that there was another racing aircraft that led to the development of the Spitfire? Although it didn’t share any common parts and was built several years prior, its development and the lessons learned from it led to the basis of many of the designed principles to where the Spitfire was eventually built- the Supermarine Schneiders.
This extremely sleek, powerful, and racing plane would eventually form the basis of the heritage of the Spitfire- a heritage that would go on up to this day.
What do you think of this beautiful aircraft?
