Meet Dan, a man that loves to play with guns. In this video, he got his hands on the legendary Thompson submachine gun and will walk you through what you need to know about it. After that, he’ll give it a go shooting multiple targets which looks and sounds fantastic.

The Thompson submachine gun, typically called the Thompson, was invented in 1918 by John T. Thompson and is one of the most recognized weapons of all time. Used heavily during the Prohibition, it made its way into the military in 1938 and was used throughout World War II.

Because of its popularity, this machine gun had many nicknames including Chicago Organ Grinder, Tommy Gun, Trench Broom and The Chopper.

During World War II, there were three types of these submachine guns in use which were the M1928A1, the M1 and M1A1. They differed in magazine types and cooling mechanisms, the M1 series essentially being a simplified version for field use.

Overall, 1.5 million of these guns were produced during World War II alone, costing about $250 USD at the time of production. Today, you can grab one for a measly $30,000.
