Watching The World’s Largest Nuclear Icebreaker Up Close Is Absolutely Terrifying

On January 15th, 2018, a Russian expedition into the Arctic to locate artifacts started with something the entire crew never expected. As it was getting dark, a massive Russian icebreaker broke its way right next to their parked trucks. Instantly taking out their phones, they took pictures as well as one video that you’ll see below. The thing was colossal and sounded like something out of a nightmare as it passed.
You can see another view of the incident from another member of the expedition. Pretty surreal if you ask us.
As for the ship, Taymyr is a nuclear-powered icebreaker built under the Soviet Union in 1985. As we’ve said before, she’s massive. Almost 500 feet long and for you Navy folks out there, has a displacement of 21,000 tons. Watch the video below of doing exactly what she was built to do.
