The Ju 322 project ended up producing the very worst aircraft of WWII. This is the story of Germany’s aerial white elephants:
Worst WWII Aircraft?
The Junkers Ju 322 Mammut resembled a giant flying wing and was a heavy transport military glider.

The aircraft was proposed for use by the Luftwaffe, but by the time the first prototype of this aircraft rolled out, it could only carry 12 tons which is a little over half of its original specifications. The aircraft also has an unusual design that many feared was aerodynamically unsound.

After numerous test flights, the design was deemed unworkable and canceled the project. The disastrous Ju 322 cost $380 million in today’s money.

In total, only two prototypes were built, and 98 were scrapped before it was even completed.
