The vintage aircraft, registered as N747HS, suffered a mechanical failure—possibly an engine fire—shortly after a low pass over runway 36L. It then veered left, circled briefly, and attempted an emergency landing in an open field north of the airport.

Spectators watched in shock as the plane touched down hard and burst into flames. Fire crews rushed to extinguish the blaze while paramedics provided immediate aid to the pilot, who sustained severe facial and head injuries. He was later airlifted to San Antonio for urgent medical treatment.

Laredo police temporarily shut down surrounding roads to allow emergency responders access to the scene. Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area as investigations continue.

Despite the dramatic crash, air show organizers announced that scheduled performances would resume later that afternoon. Officials from the FAA and NTSB are now working to determine the exact cause of the incident.
