What a Nice Find!

While exploring the Mojave Desert south of Edwards Air Force Base on Google Earth, the Forrest Haggerty YouTube Channel spotted two abandoned B-52 bombers near Rogers Dry Lake Bed. One appeared intact, while the other was in pieces.

Curious, he followed a dirt road to the site and found no โ€œKeep Outโ€ or โ€œNo Trespassingโ€ signs along the way. He later learned that these planes were remnants of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty of 1991, which led to the destruction of over 350 B-52s to reduce nuclear delivery systems.

Russian satellites later spotted these two aircraft, suspecting they were still operational. In response, the U.S. cut one up but left the other, though it was no longer flyable.

Up close, the sight was stunning. The exposed interiors revealed the aircraft’s complexity, and bullet holes suggested they had been used for target practice. Itโ€™s incredible to imagine the missions these bombers once flew, only to end up abandoned in the desert.
