US President Donald Trump announced that Boeing has been awarded a contract to build the US Air Force’s next-generation fighter jet, the F-47. The aircraft is classified as a sixth-generation fighter and is expected to be the most advanced combat aircraft ever developed.
“I’m thrilled to announce that, at my direction, the United States Air Force is moving forward with the world’s first sixth-generation fighter jet, and nothing in the world comes close to it,” Trump stated at the White House. The name F-47 reportedly acknowledges his second term as the 47th president of the United States.
Trump also revealed that a prototype of the aircraft has been in secret development and testing for the past five years. He emphasized its strategic advantages by stating, “Our enemies will never see it coming.”

New Capabilities and Design
The F-47 will feature advanced stealth technology, artificial intelligence, and autonomous command and control systems. It is expected to reach supersonic speeds without relying on an afterburner, which will allow for longer-range missions with reduced detection. The aircraft will also be equipped with high-precision weapons, hypersonic missile capabilities, and next-generation electronic warfare systems. Additionally, it will have the ability to refuel in the air, extending its operational range in combat scenarios.
Boeing has a long history of manufacturing fighter aircraft. It previously developed the F-15EX, an upgraded version of the long-serving F-15, designed with improved avionics and expanded weapons capacity. Boeing is also known for producing the F/A-18 Super Hornet, a multirole fighter used by the US Navy that is capable of operating from aircraft carriers.
Strengthening US Military Power
The United States continues to operate the Lockheed Martin F-35 stealth fighter alongside its allies. The F-35 is one of the most advanced combat aircraft in service today, offering stealth and intelligence-gathering capabilities that provide an advantage over older aircraft models such as the F-16 and F-15. The addition of the F-47 is expected to build upon these advancements and ensure continued air superiority.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the F-47 would reinforce US air dominance and serve as a warning to potential adversaries. He noted that the decision to move forward with the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program—previously at risk of being discontinued—demonstrates the country’s commitment to defense innovation.

Boeing’s Role in Future Combat Operations
Steve Parker, the CEO of Boeing’s Defense, Space, and Security division, emphasized that the company has made significant investments in preparation for this project and is ready to manufacture the most advanced fighter jet ever built. The US Air Force also plans to integrate the F-47 with autonomous robotic aircraft produced by Anduril Industries and General Atomics. These unmanned systems will complement the F-47 and enhance its capabilities in future operations.
At the event, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin highlighted the aircraft’s importance in maintaining global stability. “The new aircraft symbolizes what peace through strength will look like in the future,” he said. With the introduction of the F-47, the US military is reinforcing its technological superiority and ensuring dominance in an evolving global defense environment.
