The Crab Walk Was Insane

This footage features the B-52H Stratofortress departing, doing flybys, and landing at the Fairford RIAT-2023. The aircraft is amazing to watch especially up close!

Honestly, we had no idea that the B-52 could taxi sideways. Absolutely amazing! When the plane was first developed during the 1950s and the 1960s, one of its most highly classified features was its landing gear that could โ€œcrabโ€ sidewise. The reason for having these features is that the plane couldnโ€™t bank into a crosswind during landing. The wings were so long that during a steep bank angle, either the left or right tips would drag along the ground.
