A tragic plane crash in Boca Raton on Friday morning left three people dead and one person injured after a small aircraft plummeted onto Tri-Rail tracks near I-95, sparking fire and widespread commuter disruption.

The Cessna 310, which had departed Boca Raton Airport around 10:15 a.m. en route to Tallahassee, was airborne for only about 8โ€“10 minutes before crashing near a highway overpass. Witnesses reported hearing a thunderous boom and seeing plumes of black smoke fill the sky. One man on the ground was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after his car reportedly drove through the crashโ€™s fireball and hit a tree.

The aircraft’s pilot had reported mechanical issues and appeared to attempt a return to the airport, looping erratically at low altitude before losing control. Flightradar24 tracking showed the plane flying in tight circles before the crash.

Officials from the Boca Raton Fire Department confirmed all three people aboard the plane were killed. Their identities have not yet been released.

The impact scattered debris across the Tri-Rail tracks and nearby roadways, temporarily shutting down parts of Interstate 95, the Glades Road overpass, and suspending commuter train service between Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton. Amtrak trains were also canceled or rerouted due to the disruption.
