Five people were injured early Monday when a private jet skidded off the runway and into Coos Bay at the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport in North Bend.

The 2019 HondaJet HA-420 had departed from St. George, Utah, and was attempting to land just before 6:15 a.m. when it veered roughly 100 feet off the runway into the water. Emergency crews quickly responded and rescued the pilot and four passengers, all of whom were taken to a nearby hospital.

By Monday evening, officials said two people had been released, one had been admitted, one was still being evaluated, and the fifth had been transferred to another facility for further care. All were reported to be in stable condition.

Flight records show the jet, registered in North Bend, had made several recent trips between the two airports. A salvage company removed the aircraft from the bay later that morning after receiving approval from the National Transportation Safety Board. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
