What an Amazing Build
Former pilot Bob Deford fulfilled a lifelong dream by building a full-scale Mk.9 Spitfire replica. A retired commercial pilot since 1996, Deford teamed up with Vern Goodsell, a former car mechanic, to turn his vision into reality.

Deford visited an air museum in France to gather precise measurements, using his connections to ensure accuracy.

Over the course of eight years, the two men worked tirelessly, crafting a unique Spitfire with a one-piece wooden wing, tubular fuselage, and wooden tail.

Since completing the Spitfire in 2004, Deford has been its sole pilot, amassing an impressive 465 flying hours by 2023.

This one-of-a-kind aircraft is a testament to craftsmanship and passion – a true labor of love!
