A dramatic crash involving a U.S. Air Force F-35A Joint Strike Fighter occurred at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska early Tuesday afternoon during a routine training exercise.
The single-seat fighter jet experienced an inflight malfunction while attempting to land, forcing the pilot to eject moments before impact.
Video footage captured near a KC-135R Stratotanker on the base shows the aircraft spiraling downward with its landing gear extended before crashing onto the runway, erupting into a massive fireball. A parachute was seen nearby, confirming the pilot’s successful ejection.
Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene, and the pilot was transported to Bassett Army Hospital for evaluation. Officials reported that the pilot is in stable condition.
