Setting Off for the Peaks
On a chilly Easter Friday, two friends, one of whom runs a YouTube channel called Model 101, met in Donington to begin a weekend trip to the Peak District. After a quick stop for a forgotten dinner, the two loaded up a van and prepared for a long weekend of hiking and camping. The goal was simple but uncertainโfind a World War II plane crash site hidden in the hills.
Tom had scouted the area earlier and believed they could reach the site by scrambling up a ridge known locally as Wildboar Clough. Though the weather was rough, the idea of discovering a historic wreck kept them motivated. After a cold night in the van and a strange meal of cottage cheese and spicy toppings, the two set out.

The Climb Toward History
Their route took them through steep, rocky paths that looked almost like a movie set. The climb was graded as a โscramble,โ meaning it wasnโt quite rock climbing but required hands and feet. The path became more difficult, and the hikers joked about how unprepared they felt. Despite the challenges, they pressed on, with one comparing himself to a tugboat as he moved slowly up the rocks.
As they reached the top of the moors, the landscape opened up. With no phone signal, they had to search using instinct and memory. The area was vast, and it took hours before they found what they came forโscattered remains of a World War II aircraft. The discovery was not only surprising but gave a sense of connection to the past. It reminded them of military-style exercises from their youth, where navigation and teamwork were key to the experience.
