Giant of the Skies Touches Down in Denver for First Scheduled Visit

The world’s largest passenger jet, the Airbus A380, made aviation history on Wednesday with its first-ever scheduled landing at Denver International Airport (DIA). Operated by Lufthansa, the flight arrived nonstop from Munich, drawing crowds of aviation enthusiasts, journalists, and curious travelers eager to witness the moment.

Among the spectators was Channing Reid, a commercial aviation journalist who flew in from California just to see the double-decker giant. “Breathtaking,” he said. “It’s a dream come true.”

Lufthansa’s A380 features 509 seats, replacing the smaller Airbus A350-900 previously used on the route. The aircraft’s enormous size — a 261-foot wingspan and a two-deck layout — requires two gates for efficient boarding.

This marks only the second A380 to ever land at DIA; the first was an emergency Air France landing in 2018. This time, however, the visit was planned — and will continue daily through September.

Denver Mayor Mike Johnston called the new service a gateway to global connection. For fans like Reid, the excitement was simpler: “My inner child is definitely coming out.”
