The inaugural ball following Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony for his second, non-consecutive term as the 47th President of the United States became a night to remember. Held on January 20, 2025, the day’s ceremonies and performances culminated in an evening filled with meaningful moments. One of the highlights came during the Commander-In-Chief Ball, which is dedicated to honoring military service members.
Marine Reflects on the Experience
During the event, a special dance took place that drew significant attention. Marine Staff Sergeant Lexus Martinez had the unique opportunity to dance with Vice President JD Vance, a Marine Corps veteran himself. Reflecting on the moment, Martinez admitted she felt nervous beforehand. “I’ve never done anything like that before,” she shared. But once the dance began, her anxiety eased, thanks to Vance’s calm demeanor and surprising dance skills. “He was better than me,” Martinez joked. “I was so nervous, I probably looked like I had two left feet.”
Martinez added that Vance helped make the experience more enjoyable by keeping the mood light. They even shared a laugh about being careful not to step on each other’s feet before taking the floor. By the end of the dance, her initial fears had melted away. “It wasn’t as nerve-wracking as I thought it would be,” she said.

Service Members Shine in the Limelight: Special Dances and Performances
Other military service members also shared memorable moments at the ball. Army Sergeant Henry Waller danced with First Lady Melania Trump and was equally thrilled by the experience. “She was a really good dancer,” Waller said. “I was just overwhelmed with joy being out on the stage.”
The evening also featured performances from artists like Christopher Macchio, Lee Greenwood, and Carrie Underwood. At one point, Underwood faced a technical glitch when her backing track failed to play. Without missing a beat, she launched into an a cappella rendition of “America the Beautiful,” inviting the audience to sing along. What could have been an awkward moment turned into an uplifting and unplanned highlight of the night.
