On a special day in London, the Red Arrows soared above Buckingham Palace to honor the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two in Europe. Four generations of the Royal Family appeared on the palace balcony to view the flypast. The display was led by a World War Two-era Lancaster bomber, followed by Typhoon jets and the Red Arrows. It was a moving tribute to the anniversary, and the Royal Family waved to the crowds gathered below.
This yearโs event held extra meaning. It was the first major Victory in Europe (VE Day) commemoration without any of the royals who stood on the same balcony 80 years ago. After Queen Elizabeth IIโs death in 2022, the occasion marked a shift in how the country now remembers its history. Still, the event drew thousands to central London, kicking off four days of national remembrance and celebration.

Royal Appearances and Military Tribute
The commemorations began at noon with actor Timothy Spall reading Winston Churchillโs famous VE Day speech. Shortly after, the King and Queen were joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales and their childrenโPrince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Together, they watched a military procession that traveled from Parliament Square to Buckingham Palace.
The event included over 1,300 members of the British armed forces, along with representatives from NATO allies. The King stood and saluted as the procession reached the Queen Victoria Memorial. Later, he was joined on the balcony by senior members of the Royal Family, including Princess Anne and the Duke of Kent. The historic Lancaster bomber led the flypast, followed by a mix of modern aircraft. The weather just held as the flyover finished and the crowd began to leave.
