A U.S. Navy E/A-18G Growler crashed into San Diego Bay, with both pilots ejecting just moments before impact. The incident happened during a routine training flight, and officials confirmed that the aircraft experienced a sudden failure, forcing the crew to abandon the jet midair.
Pilots Eject and Land in the Water
The two pilots successfully ejected before the aircraft struck the water. According to reports from the U.S. Coast Guard, both crew members deployed their parachutes and landed in the bay. A nearby fishing boat saw the ejection and quickly moved in to help. Within a minute, the pilots were pulled from the water and taken to shore.
Emergency responders, including the Coast Guard and local rescue teams, arrived on the scene shortly after the crash. The pilots were transported to a hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition. Authorities credited the quick response of the fishing boat and rescue teams for preventing any serious injuries.

Investigation Underway
The U.S. Navy launched an investigation into the crash to determine the cause of the aircraftโs failure. While no details have been released yet, officials are examining maintenance records and flight data to understand what went wrong. The E/A-18G Growler, an electronic warfare aircraft based on the F/A-18 Super Hornet, is used for jamming enemy radar and communications.
Despite the crash occurring near a populated area, no civilians were injured, and there was no reported damage to property. The Navy and local authorities are working to recover the wreckage from the bay while ensuring that environmental risks are minimized. The incident highlights the risks involved in military aviation and the effectiveness of emergency response measures.
