Watching someone squeeze into a Sperry Ball Turret is a humbling sight. These compact turrets, famously used on B-17s and B-24s, make cramped Economy flights look like luxury.

Only the smallest, fittest crew members could operate these turrets, often curled into a fetal position. Physical conditioning wasnโt optionalโpilots needed peak agility to endure the challenges of combat in such confined quarters.

Danger was ever-present. Positioned on the nose or tail of the aircraft, these turrets were prime targets for enemy fire. Serving in one wasnโt just uncomfortable; it was perilous.
So, how about itโdo you think youโd fit?
