The plane was about 32 feet long with a wingspan of 37 feet. It could reach speeds up to 440 miles per hour and had a range of approximately 1,000 miles. The Mustang was powered by a Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, which provided about 1,490 horsepower. It was armed with six .50 caliber machine guns and could carry bombs or rockets for ground attacks. ​
