SUPER RARE: Buzz Bomb Engine Demo

At the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino, California, visitors got a wild blast from the past with a live demo of a World War II-era German V-1 “Buzz Bomb” engine. The museum fired up the pulsejet engine, and true to its name, it buzzed loudly.

The engine roared, spat flames, and shook the ground, making it clear why it was so feared.

The V-1, also called the “Doodlebug,” was one of the first cruise missiles ever used, known for the eerie pulsing sound it made before suddenly cutting out—right before impact.
Hearing that same sound in person gave people a small taste of what it must’ve felt like back in wartime Europe.
