Watch This WWII Spitfire Takes Off From Blackpool Airport On A Pleasure Flight

A Walk on the Wild Side / YouTube
Visitors walking the sand dunes near Blackpool Airport this week witnessed something special. A restored World War II-era Spitfire was offering pleasure flights. The aircraft, known for its role in the Battle of Britain, could be seen taking off and circling the area as people watched and listened to the sound of its engine echo across the coast.
The video begins along Clifton Drive, a busy road that links Blackpool with St Annes. The area has changed over the years, with new houses now built where the Pontins holiday camp once stood. From the top of the dunes, thereโs a clear view of the runway at Blackpool Airport. This location is popular with spotters, especially during the annual air show or when the Red Arrows visit.

A View From the Dunes
The Spitfire was visiting Blackpool for a short stay, giving rides to those who booked in advance. Each flight cost about ยฃ3,500. Despite the high price, all flights were fully booked. As the aircraft prepared for takeoff, a large Augusta Westland helicopter also took to the skies. This type of helicopter is usually used to service gas platforms out in the Irish Sea. Interestingly, it used the runway for takeoff rather than lifting vertically.
When the Spitfire finally moved down the runway, its powerful engine filled the air. Many people gathered to watch, clearly excited. The sound of the engine was loud, distinct, and familiar to those who know British aviation history. Moments like this connect modern life with the past in a very real way.

The video also shows scenes from the surrounding area. A man cycling along the path near the dunes reflects on the day. He points out the cycle lanes and talks about a local supporter he met. In the distance, more aircraft land and take off, showing that Blackpool Airport remains busy.
