What a Beautiful Restoration!

This video showcases the legendary Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-4 “D-FEML 26” during ground runs—and what a sight it is. Originally built in June 1939, this aircraft served with the 5th Squadron of Jagdgeschwader 5 before it was lost near Murmansk (Titovka) on January 24, 1942.

Its wreckage remained hidden for over 50 years until it was recovered in 1993. German collector Eberhard Thiesen acquired the remains with the vision of returning it to the skies. That dream became reality thanks to Dirk Bende and his expert team at MotoBende in Hangelar, who painstakingly restored this rare E-variant of the Bf 109 to airworthy condition.

One of the most impressive details? The engine. Hats off to the team that brought it back to life. There wasn’t a hint of smoke during start-up, and the sound was absolutely perfect—authentic and powerful. It’s almost hard to believe that this warbird is over 80 years old.

This restoration is a true tribute to aviation history and the craftsmanship behind keeping these legends alive.
