A Stunning Restoration Takes Flight
This footage captures a beautifully restored Bf 109 preparing for the 2016 Warbirds Over the Beach Airshow. But here’s a fascinating detail: it’s actually a Spanish Hispano HA-1112 Buchón, meticulously converted and fitted with a Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine to closely resemble the iconic Bf 109 G-4.

While it’s a bit disappointing that no full fly-bys were performed, the startup sequence alone is a treat for the senses. That deep, throaty growl paired with the distinctive supercharger whistle is pure magic. The DB 605 engine gives this aircraft a sound that’s uniquely menacing—far more aggressive than the familiar purr of a Merlin.

It’s incredible that a DB 605 was even available for this restoration. The result is not just a faithful reproduction of a legendary warbird, but a stunning tribute to aviation history.

This is, without a doubt, a magnificent restoration and a masterful transformation of the Buchón.
