Trump Announces Contract Winner For New F-47 Fighter Jet

President Donald Trump has announced that Boeing has been awarded a significant contract to develop the U.S. Air Force’s next-generation fighter jet, designated the F-47. This aircraft is part of the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program, aiming to maintain U.S. air superiority amid evolving global threats.
The F-47, a sixth-generation fighter, is set to replace the aging F-22 Raptor fleet. It will serve as the central platform in a “family of systems,” operating alongside uncrewed collaborative combat aircraft designed to penetrate advanced air defenses. The aircraft will feature enhanced stealth capabilities, extended range, and advanced avionics, ensuring adaptability to various combat scenarios.
The initial contract is valued at approximately $20 billion, covering the engineering and manufacturing development phase. Boeing’s selection is expected to revitalize its military aviation division, particularly its fighter production line in St. Louis, Missouri.
President Trump noted that experimental versions of the F-47 have been undergoing test flights for nearly five years, demonstrating superior speed, maneuverability, and stealth compared to current aircraft.
The NGAD program represents a significant advancement in U.S. military aviation, aiming to ensure air superiority in future conflicts, particularly in scenarios involving near-peer adversaries like China.
