What an Iconic Aircraft!

The arrival of two F-117 Nighthawks at the 144th Fighter Wing on September 13, 2021, marked an exciting moment for aviation enthusiasts and military personnel alike. These legendary stealth aircraft, long thought to be fully retired, continue to serve in a limited capacity, providing support for research and air combat training missions.

Lt. Col. David Allamandola, an officer from the 144th FW Advanced Programs, expressed the significance of this event, stating, โ€œOur Griffin pilots, operations, and maintainers are thrilled to be able to participate in this unique opportunity. It is a very special privilege to do open-air training missions with the F-117 Nighthawks.โ€

The sight of these iconic aircraft landing in Fresno immediately captured the attention of local residents and media outlets. While the Nighthawks were officially retired in 2008, many remain in airworthy condition, proving their continued value in specialized training roles. Their presence in the skies serves as a reminder of the groundbreaking stealth technology that revolutionized modern air combat.
