Thom Richard took the skies in the P-51D Mustang “Precious Metal” for the team’s qualifying run at the 2013 Reno Air Races, securing a strong position on the poll. Despite last-minute challenges, including installing a semi-stock engine due to issues with the race engine, Richard delivered an impressive performance.
Pushing the legendary Mustang to its limits, he achieved the sixth-fastest speed of the session at 440.385 mph. Spectators were treated to the iconic roar and agility of “Precious Metal.” This highlighted the skill of the pilot and the resilience of the aircraft. The qualifying run set the stage for an exciting competition, showcasing both determination and classic warbird excellence.
