Jack Green’s Military Career

Jack Green enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces in February 1942. He underwent training as a pilot and went on to complete 30 combat missions as a B-17 pilot. Later, he served as the Squadron Commander of the 25th Bomb Group, flying over 47 night combat missions in the British Mosquito aircraft over Europe. His decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with seven Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Croix de Guerre from General Charles de Gaulle for his contributions to the liberation of France between June and December 1944.

The C-47 Skytrain was a military adaptation of the civilian Douglas DC-3. It was used extensively during World War II for transporting troops, cargo, and wounded soldiers. The aircraft’s versatility and reliability made it a backbone of the Allied air transport fleet.

C-47 Operations and Missions

C-47s were involved in various critical operations during the war. They were used to drop paratroopers behind enemy lines, tow gliders carrying troops and equipment, and deliver essential supplies to frontline units.
