They say that the Navy Destroyer is a vastly outdated vessel that was rendered completely irrelevant by the establishment of the aircraft carrier during WWII. Despite those objections, the US Navy proceeded ahead with their Arleigh Burke-class destroyers. The days of destroyers hurling shots from large guns are certainly over, but today’s destroyers emphasize missile attacks as ISIS certainly found out.
As ISIS forces continued to terrorize Syria, the USS Arleigh Burke stepped in to remedy the situation. Launching a barrage of Tomahawk missiles the vicious destroyer kept true to its name and absolutely slaughtered its ISIS targets.
“The airstrikes against Islamic State targets were carried out in the city of Raqqa and other areas in eastern Syria by a mix of manned aircraft – fighter jets and bombers – plus Tomahawk cruise missiles and drone aircraft.”
There are some people in the military that claim that destroyers are vastly outdated and unnecessary. However, if you watch the USS Arleigh Burke lighting up the night sky with a whole bunch of tomahawk missiles you might want to keep her around against ISIS.
