Armed to the teeth, with two 0.50-inch M2 machine guns in the front and two 0.30-inch M1919 guns in the rear, it proved formidable even in aerial dogfights.

While primarily a carrier-based dive bomber, the Dauntless showcased its adaptability through a land-based variant, the A-24 Banshee.
