What a Beauty!

The powerful 2,400-hp, 18-cylinder radial engine of the Corsair F4U-5NL from Flying Legends at Siegerland Airport was on full display, showing off its muscle. Bernhard “Bernie” Diehl made his debut with his first official public performance in the Corsair at the Flugplatzkerb Gelnhausen 2025.
According to its history card, this particular aircraft flew over Korea and became one of the most famous operational units of the US Marines, and was even nicknamed the “Flying Nightmares” at that time. It then stayed for 25 years in an Argentinian museum before it was taken to France in 1994 for restoration. It was acquired in November 2023 by the Flying Legends GmbH and has been part of the Flying Legends collection.
The Corsair has to be one of the most beautiful-looking and sounding warbirds! What do you think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
