Tragedy struck in Colorado on Sunday morning when two small planes collided while attempting to land at Fort Morgan Municipal Airport, killing one person and injuring three others.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, a Cessna 172 was on final approach to the runway around 10:45 a.m. when it was struck midair by an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300. Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft clip each other before both went down in fields near the airport.
When first responders arrived, they found both planes engulfed in flames, sending plumes of smoke into the sky. Deputies, firefighters, and bystanders rushed to help, with civilians attempting to douse the fires before emergency crews took over.

Each plane was carrying two people. The two occupants of the Cessna suffered only minor injuries and were treated at the scene. Of the EA300’s crew, one was transported to a local hospital, while the other was pronounced dead at the crash site by the county coroner.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the collision and stated that the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation into the cause of the accident.

In a statement, the sheriff’s office expressed condolences to the victim’s family and gratitude to both first responders and local citizens who assisted at the scene.
